I have the honour to transit the accompanying

copy of a letter addressed to the Attorney General in which Ir.

7. Obey, the Far Eastern representative of Lesara. Coy, Loluen &

Co., 27, Lendenhall Street, London, 3.0., enquires whether this

Government contemplates the introduction of any legislation likely

to affect the stutas of Lesers. Lidreva von Tischers

Ceorie, Ltd, and requests that a raply be sent direct to his principals through

the Colonial Office.

The firm of Andrews von Fischerz & George, Ltd. is

a Hongkong Company operating in Shanghai. It possesses a nominal

share cupital of 200,000 Taels divided into 4,000 fifty-taol shares.

'I attached copy of the latest return filed with the Registrar

of Companies which shows the number and distribution of the

shares taken up on the 29th Bay last and a list of the share-

holders on that date. This Coverrument is not in possession of

any definite information regarding the nationality of the shure-

holders or of the directors, but there in no intention at present

to introduce legislation which would have the offoot of

attributing enemy charucter to this Company. The proposed China

Companies Ordinance, referred to in my confidential denpatch of

" the 24th July and in previous correspondence, may, however, liven affect its status in some respect, for instance, by requiring
